Alison Vernon-Smith is a multi award-winning Audio Producer and Executive Producer.

She spent twenty-five years in BBC and independent radio working on five different networks and across a variety of genres: magazine and interview formats, round-table discussion shows and live OB’s for Radio’s 1 and 4, live youth programmes for Radio 5, social action programming for Radio 1 and documentaries for Radio’s 1, 2, 4, 5Live and the World Service.

She ended her BBC career with seven years as an Executive Producer at BBC Radio Comedy, managing a team of six Producers and developing and managing over seventy hours of new comedy a year for Radio 4 whilst making her own award-winning shows.

She won awards for her shows with Bridget Christie and Andrew O’Neill, got the unknown policeman turned stand-up Alfie Moore his own Radio 4 show (now on its fifth series) produced narrative comedy, panel shows and live stand-up.

She now works as a freelance audio Producer and Executive Producer of podcasts and radio shows.  Her podcast credits include We Need To Talk About a weekly, topical, satirical podcast for Spotify which she developed and formatted with Whistledown Productions, True Tales of Luxury for Harrods with Mariella Frostrup, The Road Less Travelled with Reggie Yates for Belstaff and Locked Together for Audible with Whistledown Productions (commissioned by Audible at the start of lockdown.) Her recent credits also include Making History for Radio 4.

She’s an Executive Producer on Screen South’s ongoing New Creatives project, working with batches of new writers on their first audio drama productions and she also runs sitcom writing workshops with Harry Venning, from Radio 4’s Clare in the Community.

She’s currently in production on two Radio 4 audience comedy shows now scheduled for early 2021 with Imran Yusuf and Anna Morris.
